We live in an era where technology is progressing rapidly. Today, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a part of almost every field from healthcare to transport, from business to education. In such a scenario, a question arises: can AI replace teachers? Let us reflect on this.
First, in terms of knowledge delivery, artificial intelligence can provide instant answers, unlimited information, and even personalised learning support. If you ask a question to AI, you get the answer within seconds. This is truly impressive.
But teachers are not limited to just giving answers. They explain through real-life examples, connect with emotions, and make learning meaningful. Teachers understand when a student is confused and patiently explain again and again until the student fully understands.
Second, emotional connection. AI is intelligent in analysing data, but it cannot feel emotions. If a student is sad, anxious, or under pressure, a machine cannot console them. In contrast, teachers inspire, encourage, and stand by them in joys and sorrows. They are not just instructors, but also guides, advisors, and in many ways, second parents to students.
Third, creativity and values. AI works on pre-fed data and algorithms. It can only repeat or present in modified form what already exists. But creativity is not confined to data. It is the ability to imagine, to be original, and to think beyond limits. Teachers foster creativity, encourage new ideas, and most important, teach discipline, ethics, and life values. These values cannot be coded into a machine; only a human teacher can impart them.
Fourth, adaptability. AI adapts to data patterns, but it lacks human sensitivity. It cannot understand when a student is struggling or when the classroom environment needs to be lightened. Teachers, with their experience and empathy, quickly recognise the strengths and weaknesses of students and adjust their teaching style accordingly. This human touch is what makes education lively.
Finally, the role in society. AI is undoubtedly a powerful tool for education and efficiency. It can support teachers, assist in classrooms, and help students with research. But it is still just a tool. In contrast, teachers are nation-builders, they are role models.
