Scorching trade
April has turned out to be the cruellest month given the rapidity with which a trade war is unfolding globally on account of the Trump tariffs affecting global markets. The Trump tariffs are a problem as there is also a legal aspect, their permanence (will there be a political blowback after an upending of trade relations with the rest of the world?), and their effectiveness (how many American CEOs will decide to allocate billions of dollars towards new factories in the U.S.?) None of these also take into account the element of retaliation by others such as China and the European Union.
The U.S. has most definitely damaged its credibility as a sound trade partner.

Help the NEET aspirant
The line in the Editorial (April 8), that Tamil Nadu should help “coach students to face NEET with confidence”, must be taken seriously by the State government. Here are some steps. The book market has excellent study material in English for NEET. But there is none in Tamil. This needs to be looked into. There are websites in English which help students in NEET preparation, but there is nothing in Tamil. The Government must start uploading online study material to help students. The Chief Minister must stop talking about NEET exemption in public and devote his attention to helping many aspirants.
